Since 2007, DIG has played a pivotal role in building the capacity of utilities and small service providers (SSPs). DIG has supported utilities and SSPs through training and capacity building to: assess client demand and capacity to pay for basic services, analyze gaps in business operations, design project business plans, develop and deliver training curriculum, advise boards and management on approaches to make the workforce more gender-inclusive, develop pioneering approaches to increase revenues, negotiate with financial institutions to obtain loans for basic service provision, identify innovative financing for WASH service delivery, facilitate market access, and negotiate public-private-community partnerships.
Relevant examples of DIG’s Capacity Building / Business Planning for Utilities and Small Service Providers include SUWASA Kenya I & II, KIWASH, WCP, and Urbis.
