Chief of Party/Institutional Development Specialist (Abuja or Kaduna Office)

The Development Innovations Group (DIG) is seeking a Chief of Party/Institutional Development Specialist for an anticipated donor-funded water, sanitation and hygiene (WASH) initiative in Nigeria. The overall purpose is to achieve the dual benefits of improved health and well-being for Nigerians through increased and more financially sustainable access and to build the confidence of the public in government’s ability to deliver basic services. The Chief of Party/Institutional Development Specialist will provide overall leadership to the project staff in technical, administrative and financial sectors, act as the link between the donor and the local groups/communities and ensure effective implementation of all aspects of the program.


Specific Responsibilities:

Provide the overall leadership, strategic guidance, vision, and management to staff for successful implementation;

Work closely with subsequent TO key personnel and supervises project staff and ensures the strategic and functional integration of all technical areas as well as strong collaboration with donors, other implementers, and local counterparts;

Responsible for meeting contractual obligations, producing deliverables and targets, and achieving project results as specified by the donor under each TO;

Responsible for providing quality control of products prepared by the team and providing technical guidance, to partners;

S/he oversees project planning, provides technical direction and support and ensures implementation, with a focus on results, and financial accountability for all project activities;

Communicate/work with FMOH, FMWR, and key stakeholders at national level.

The COP will be the primary point of contact for the donor.

The COP must serve as the institutional development specialist in the Abuja or Kaduna Office.


Minimum requirements:

The COP must have an advanced degree in a relevant field, 10+ years of relevant experience, including 6 years of experience in project management;

Demonstrated progressive experience in WASH Programs and working with development agencies and organizations, government officials, civil society leaders, community leaders, project beneficiaries and project staff;

Demonstrated strong management capacity in WASH Programs with proven ability to oversee multiple activities simultaneously in multiple locations;

Possess excellent organizational, analytical, oral and written communications skills in English; demonstrated supervisory skills; and ability to work well on team.

The COP should have experience in WASH research, institutional capacity building and/or WASH sector utilities in Africa, ideally in Nigeria.

The COP should be experienced managing diverse teams in WASH projects in Africa, ideally in Nigeria.
